BYOB Mani/Pedi with Natural Nail Polish & Sugar Scrubs

One of our favorite ways to indulge in some relaxing time to yourself is with a visit to the nail salon for a mani/pedi. This time is intended to be a treat to make those paws pretty with the season’s brightest hues. A visit to the salon can unfortunately be an unintended toxic experience with exposure to multiple chemicals with inhalation risks, and high absorption rates of toxic ingredients into the blood stream. Sorry to be a wet blanket, but to look on the bright side, we’ve got some fun alternatives for you to keep this happy tradition a healthy one!

Excerpt from one of our favorite books: No More Dirty Looks

“As a guiding principle when looking for a salon, if it reeks of nail polish smell- a highly volatile mix of sometimes-toxic chemical fumes, which are as bad to inhale as they are to pour onto your skin- it means the salon is not being properly ventilated. ”

Once you have identified a well ventilated salon, request that the technician omit the use of any “bath salts” in your foot bath. Rest assured, your skin and calluses are about to get the most incredible scrub from our Organic Bath Fare Trade Sugar Scrub. Pass on the pale pink- nasty lotion. You never loved the feel of it in the first place right or am I right? You won’t miss it with that supple moisture your skin is left with after using your favorite sugar scrub.

Next, you will provide your new Scotch Naturals Sticky Base Coat and remind your nail tech to forgo the alcohol, cuticle softeners and oil typically applied.  The base coat adheres to the nail bed much better without the use of drying alcohol.

Pick your favorite color from a wide selection of water based natural nail polishes from Scotch Naturals. Apply a two coats or even three depending on the coverage you are looking for. Wait two minutes in-between each application.

Finish off your beautiful mani/pedi with your Scotch Naturals On the Rocks Top Coat. It is important to use the Scotch Naturals 3 step process to ensure a quality finish.

Last but not least, when you are ready to remove you polish, soak your nails for two minutes in hot water and apply a few sprays of the Scotch Naturals Soy Polish Remover to the nails. Let sit for two minutes and as the polish starts to lift from the beds of the nails, use a paper towel or cotton round to remove the polish.
