Four Travel Tips From A Fairly Frequent Flyer

I recently returned from a trip to Europe with my husband to celebrate my birthday, but while I enjoy jetsetting to different exotic destinations, travelling long hours in compressed cabin air can really do a number on my skin. As someone who travels frequently, I would love to share four tips with you to make your next trip more enjoyable:

1. Hydration is key

We all know cabin air to be extremely dry and dehydrating. At 12 percent humidity when cruising at high altitudes, it is drier than most deserts and can be damaging to your health.  It is recommended that you drink a liter of water for every 5 hours of flying so that you are not dehydrated, and I suggest you bring a reusable water bottle and fill it up when you get past security.

 2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Two must-haves in my kit are body butter and lip balm, and I love Botanical Me’s Lavender Savanna Rich Body Butter and Lip BalmThe Body Butter is richly scented with a calming blend of South African grown cape lavender, frankincense and sandalwood and sits on a nourishing base of fair-trade shea butter and baobab oil, and it will melt effortlessly into your skin without a greasy residue. The Lip Balm is made with fair trade shea better and organic tamanu oil and will immediately sooth and moisturize your lips and your dry cuticles. The best part? They donate 10% of their profits to Malaria No More, a non-profit dedicated to eradicating malaria by 2040.

3. Downsize your kit

It makes life easier when you only pack what is essential in your carry-on so you don’t have to spend 10 minutes rummaging through your bag when the cabin lights are out. I prefer to pack travel-sized products to reduce baggage weight and multi-tasking items like Botanical Me’s Rest and Refreshed Aroma Mist, which acts an air and fabric freshener, hand sanitizer and hair perfume, or One Love Organic’s Skin Savior Wonder Balm, an all-in-one make-up remover, cleanser, moisturizer and face balm.

4. Remember to wear SPF

I prefer the window seat because of the incredible views, but unfortunately it also exposes me to the sun’s harmful rays. Sunscreen should be an inflight requirement, and diligently reapply a marble-sized amount over your face every 2 hours. Skip your toxic sunscreen and try COOLA’s antioxidant-rich Classic Face SPF30 Unscented, made with over 70% organic ingredients. – Tricia Savino
